The Old Germany Restaurant

The Old Germany Restaurant is located on 80 Church Street in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada.
We, Holger and Heidi Renner, own and operate the Restaurant. At the same time, we run a hobby farm with lots of animals in Tidnish, NS.
Holger, our daughters Daniela and Angelina, two horses (Asterix & Obelix), three dogs, (Candy, Nero & Suza) two guinea pigs (Joe and Cherryl) and I immigrated in July 2003 from Germany to Canada. A new life began.
Our job carreer started here in Amherst at the Farmersmarket in April 2005. We offered fresh baked breads, cookies and cakes for sale, as well as produce from our farm. Because of the authentic German recipes for our baked goods, we were able to bring a bigger variety to the market. A couple month later we were confident enough to open market stalls in Sackville, Tatamagouche and Moncton. Despite the hard work, the early getting up and the travelling, we both really enjoyed this time, special because of the close contact to the people, our customer. The idea to open a bakery or a restaurant was already born in Germany, then in June 2006 we got the opportunity to rent a little restaurant in the heart of Amherst. After cleaning and renovating, we finally opened on the 22nd of August the first time our door. We were amazed how many people were interested in trying the German cuisine.
Since then we never stopped. We are very proud to say that we have a really close relationship to most of our customer.
Principally we concentrate on several matter, like creating a clean, cosy atmosphere;
providing authentic German food prepared with high quality ingredients;
connecting to our customer to provide a personal individual service.
We are definitly not a fast food restaurant, I like to call us even '' a slow food restaurant'', this does not mean that you have to wait for your meal forever but it includes that the preparation takes some time and whats even more important, that you as a customer should take any possible time to enjoy every taste of your meal.
All what matters is to satisfy our customer, if they are happy, we are happy and if they leave with a smile on their lips we know that we are on the right track.

Introducing our breads

We serve you always slices of our fresh homemade bread as an appetizer. At the same time, we sell loaves of bread in our restaurant. Usually we have at least two different kind of breads available. If you want a special kind of bread, ask us for our bread list. We offer also fresh baked glutenfree breads and cakes, only on order. Here some samples of our different kind of breads.
